Binary Table Extension (Standard extension 3)

Binary Table は基本的には前述の ASCII Table のバイナリ版だが、きわめて多くのデータ型と様々な拡張機能を含む複雑なものである。複雑な分、柔軟性はあり、天文衛星の複雑怪奇なテレメトリデータを格納するような、非常に高度な要求にも応えることができる。

Binary Table は Cotton W. D. (NRAO) と Tody D. (NOAO) により ASCII Table の一般化として開発され、'BINTABLE' というタイプ名で 1994 年 6 月、IAU-FWG で投票され、正式に Standard extension として採用された。 詳細は次の論文を参照。
